The Minnesota Wild have 14 restricted free agents.

Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher and head coach Mike Yeo have a decision to make on all the free agents.

The Wild currently have 31 players under contract for next season; each team is allowed a maximum of 50.

With the 19 remaining contracts, at least one will be used on drafted players that have expiring rights this summer. Also, there is cap space to try and lure a big name free agent or two to Minnesota.

Here is restricted free agent center Chad Rau.

Number – 36; Height – 5-11; Weight – 175; Hometown – Eden Prairie, Minnesota; 2011-12 Salary – $525,000. Qualifying Offer – $577,500.

Statistics: Nine games played, two goals, and a minus-one rating (Minnesota Wild); 67 games played, 14 goals, 21 assists, plus-six rating and two penalty minutes (Houston Aeros).

Strengths: He is an offensively gifted center. He is smart with the ability to play any situation (power play, penalty kill and 5-on-5).

Weaknesses: He is not an elite scorer. He needs to improve his consistency and his first stride quickness.

Outlook: He only had two goals for the Wild last season, but made them count. Both were game-winning goals in hockey day celebration games. The first came in his NHL debut on Hockey Day Minnesota and the second came nearly a month later on Hockey Day in America. He is not a top-six forward, but is a quality depth forward or secondary scoring forward. He is a candidate to receive a qualifying offer and most likely will.
