The Minnesota Wild have 14 restricted free agents.

Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher and head coach Mike Yeo have a decision to make on all the free agents.

The Wild currently have 31 players under contract for next season; each team is allowed a maximum of 50.

With the 19 remaining contracts, at least one will be used on drafted players that have expiring rights this summer. Also, there is cap space to try and lure a big name free agent or two to Minnesota.

Here is restricted free agent defenseman Chay Genoway.

Number – 47; Height – 5-9; Weight – 177; Hometown – Swan River, Manitoba; 2011-12 Salary – $1,200,000. Qualifying Offer – $850,500.

Statistics – one game played and one assist (Minnesota Wild); 72 games played, seven goals, 29 assists, minus-one rating and 29 penalty minutes (Houston Aeros).

Strengths: He is a smooth skating, puck moving, offensive defenseman. He can handle the puck through traffic.

Weaknesses: He lacks ideal size and will get pushed around a bit in the defensive zone. He

Outlook: He made his NHL debut last season and picked up an assist in the process. He led all Aeros defensemen in points last season, his first professional season. He is a quality depth defenseman at this stage of his career, but I don’t think he will get a qualifying offer. I do, however, believe he will be re-signed to a more cap-friendly contract.
