The Minnesota Wild took advantage of a Columbus Blue Jackets team that was playing the back-end of back-to-back games for a 4-1 win Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.

Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi, both acquired in two separate trades with the San Jose Sharks in the offseason, scored goals in their Wild debuts.

The Wild acquired those two players for their shoot-first mentality. Heatley also brought his very good power play ability with him.

The Wild (1-0) went 2-4 on the power play and held the Blue Jackets scoreless with six man-advantages.

Marco Scandella scored his first goal of the season on the power play off a chip pass from Jared Spurgeon to give the Wild a 2-0 lead in the first period.

The Wild extended its lead to 3-0 when Heatley redirected a Pierre-Marc Bouchard pass over Steve Mason’s shoulder from the high slot on the power play.

Bouchard also assisted on the Wild’s first goal, which came one minute and 10 seconds into the game when he sent an offensive zone pass to Matt Cullen for the partial breakaway score.

Setoguchi capped the Wild’s offense with a one-time shot off the shoulder of Mason late in the second period. Heatley picked up his second point of the game with the cross-ice feed to Setoguchi.

The Wild played a good game, but were far from perfect.

First, the penalties. Giving up six power play opportunities will lead to losses. Also, it struggled in the second period of the preseason games. Saturday was no different early in the middle frame. The Blue Jackets got the Wild bottled up in its own zone.

Niklas Backstrom stopped 29 of 31 shots to pick up the win.

Three Stars

No. 3 – Pierre-Marc Bouchard. The Wild’s winger recorded two assists, including a helper on the first goal of the game.

No. 2 – Niklas Backstrom. The Wild’s goaltender allowed a couple pucks to get behind, but made a few very good saves in the victory.

No. 1 – Dany Heatley. The Wild’s winger recorded a goal and an assist.
