The National Hockey League suspended Minnesota Wild forward Brad Staubitz for the remainder of the preseason and three regular season games.

NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan, in his first season as league disciplinarian, announced the suspension Monday.

The suspend stems from an illegal hit on Columbus Blue Jackets forward Cody Bass on Sept. 23 at the Xcel Energy Center. Staubitz was given a major penalty and game misconduct for checking from behind. Bass was injured on the check, but is back in the Blue Jackets lineup Monday in a preseason game against the Washington Capitals.

Staubitz will miss preseason games against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, Blue Jackets on Thursday and Edmonton Oilers on Friday and regular season games against the Blue Jackets on Oct. 8, New York Islanders on Oct. 10 and Ottawa Senators on Oct. 11. He is eligible to return Oct. 13 against the Oilers at the Xcel Energy Center.
