The Minnesota Wild have turned a rough stretch into three straight dominating performances.
It also marks the third straight game the Wild was locked in a tight game as the final buzzer sounded. The Wild held off a late rally by the Edmonton Oilers to win 5-3 Tuesday at Rexall Place.
The Wild (24-16-3) scored early and often. It scored one goal in the first three minutes of each period.
Kyle Brodziak put the Wild on the board first by wresting a rebound past Devan Dubnyk 61 seconds into the game.
The Wild never relinquished the lead and the Oilers got no closer than two goals.
Stoner quickly recorded his second assist of the game when he intentionally shot the puck off the boards behind the Oilers net. Torrey Mitchell sent a no-look backhand to Mikael Granlund at the top of the crease for the tap-in goal. It was the Finnish phenom's first goal since opening day.
The Wild extended its lead with the man advantage just 20 seconds into the third period when Zach Parise recorded his team-leading 16th goal of the season. Ryan Suter recorded one of the two assists take the league lead for assists by a defenseman with 28. Jason Pominville recorded the other assist.
Pominville has settled onto the line with Brodziak and Pierre-Marc Bouchard. The two wingers set Brodziak up for a breakaway to cap the scoring five minutes and 34 seconds into the third period.
The Oilers (16-19-7) made a late push over the final two and a half minutes with the goalie pulled.
