The Minnesota Wild lost its seventh straight game with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the St. Louis Blues Saturday at the Scottrade Center.

The Wild was in the game until for about a period, but everything came unhinged and the Blues completely took the game over in the second and third periods.

The Blues got goals from two players that will probably not score another goal this season, including the eventual game-winner from enforcer Ryan Reaves at the 9:50 mark of the opening period.

The Blues put the game out of reach with a shot by Barrett Jackman that snuck its way past Josh Harding early in the second period.

Late in second period Andy McDonald redirected a pass from Alex Pietrangelo into the open net behind Harding. That goal sealed the fate for the Wild with its third goal of the game. The Blues improved to 28-0 when scoring three goals or more in a game. The Wild fell to 3-21-6 when allowing three or more goals.

The Wild (25-24-9) were shutout for just the third time this season, but average just 2.14 goals per game, second worst in the NHL.

Warren Peters gave David Backes a cross check to the ear that left the Spring Lake Park native laying on the ice holding his head waning minutes of the game. Peters was given a major penalty, 10-minute misconduct and game-misconduct. He will probably be suspended, but remember Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Jared Spurgeon and Brad Staubitz received more blatant and dangerous hits or stick work in the past that did not result in suspensions. Brendan Shanahan should announce something today or tomorrow morning before the Wild take on the Boston Bruins at the Xcel Energy Center Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Three Stars

No. 3 – Brian Elliott. The Blues goaltender recorded the shutout.

No. 2 – Patrik Berglund. The Blues forward recorded an assist.

No. 1 – Alex Pietrangelo. The Blues defenseman recorded two assists.
