Wild get first road win; Brodziak lights the lamp
The Minnesota Wild struggled in its first four road games this season, but got a much needed win in its fifth try Monday.
The Wild (6-5-1) had the early opportunities and forced the Flames to commit the first three penalties of the game.
It didn't pay off, but the the Wild got the first goal of the game late in the second period.
Kyle Brodziak tucked the puck behind Leland Irving for his first goal of the season with one minute and 38 seconds remaining in the second period.
Ryan Suter, who assisted on both Wild goals in Saturday's win over the Nashville Predators, pinched down the boards to keep the puck in the offensive zone and deflected the puck to the slot. Devin Setoguchi picked up and fed Brodziak on the backdoor. Brodziak moved back across the top of the crease as Irving slid past.
The Wild held the lead for awhile in real time only because of the second intermission. The Flames (3-4-3) tied the game one minute and 28 seconds into the third period when Jiri Hudler beat Backstrom between the legs on a two-on-one rush. Tom Gilbert left Hudler all alone and took away the passing option to Roman Cervenka. However, Backstrom was slow to cover up the five-hole and Hudler sent the game to overtime.
