The Minnesota Wild started strong, but fizzled out in the third period before losing to the Philadelphia Flyers 5-1 Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers scored three goals (two on the power play and one shorthanded) on the special teams, including two in the second period.

The Wild (22-17-7) got the early jump and kept the Flyers on its half of the ice for the first 1:14 until Matt Cullen was called for a holding penalty while chasing a puck dumped into the offensive zone.

The Flyers (27-13-4) used most of the two minutes before Kimmo Timonen fired a shot from the point through traffic and over Josh Harding’s glove shoulder.

The Flyers later scored two more goals (their third and fourth goals of the game) by throwing the puck toward the net from the point, all through traffic and deflected past Harding.

The Wild had only one power play against the third-most penalized team in the NHL and it did not go well. The Wild did not get a chance to set up and gave up a shorthanded goal to rookie Sean Couturier midway through the second period that resulted in the game-winning goal.

Darroll Powe scored the only goal for the Wild, in his first game in Philadelphia since being traded to the Wild during the offseason. He fired a shot past the glove of Ilya Bryzgalov from the hash marks at the sideboards on a rush. Warren Peters and Mike Lundin recorded assists on the goal.
