Cal Clutterbuck made a great play to drop the puck back to Spurgeon and picked up the second assist.
The Blues had two one-goal leads, but Koivu answered both with two special teams goals.
Koivu first tied the game at 1-1 in the second period with an unassisted shorthanded tally for his second goal of the season. He made a great individual play to steal the puck behind the Blues’ net. He then turned out front and rifled a wrist shot over Jaroslav Halak’s glove.
The Wild (12-5-3) peppered Halak for 16 shots in the third period, but could not get anything past him before Koivu figured it out.
The Blues (10-7-2) got goals from Spring Lake Park native David Backes in the first period and Warroad native T. J. Oshie in the third.
No. 3 – Josh Harding. The Wild goaltender made a few very good saves and won the overtime with a good kick save.
No. 2 – Jaroslav Halak. The Blues goaltender stole a point with several spectacular saves in the third period.
No. 1 – Mikko Koivu. The Wild forward scored two goals.
