The Minnesota Wild sent everything it had at the St. Louis Blues in the third period before finally tying the game with just over a minute and a half remaining.

Mikko Koivu partially fanned on a one-timer on the power play with 1:38 remaining in the game, but got enough on the pass from Jared Spurgeon to send the game to overtime.

Cal Clutterbuck made a great play to drop the puck back to Spurgeon and picked up the second assist.

The Blues had two one-goal leads, but Koivu answered both with two special teams goals.

Koivu first tied the game at 1-1 in the second period with an unassisted shorthanded tally for his second goal of the season. He made a great individual play to steal the puck behind the Blues’ net. He then turned out front and rifled a wrist shot over Jaroslav Halak’s glove.

The Wild (12-5-3) peppered Halak for 16 shots in the third period, but could not get anything past him before Koivu figured it out.

Koivu and Matt Cullen scored in the shootout and Josh Harding stopped two attempts for the win.

The Blues (10-7-2) got goals from Spring Lake Park native David Backes in the first period and Warroad native T. J. Oshie in the third.
